About the June 2021 4CH1 session

Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 4CH1 has two papers: Paper 1 (4CH1/1C — principles of chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry) and Paper 2 (4CH1/2C — organic chemistry, physical chemistry continuation, separate sciences). Each paper is 2 hours and 110 marks. The qualification is linear — both papers contribute equally.

The June 2021 bundle on this page contains 2 files across 1 paper. Mark schemes are included for every question paper. The examiner report has not yet been released for this session. Edexcel does not run paper variants the way Cambridge does, so each paper number in this session is the same paper sat globally.

How to use these Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry past papers

Timed practice under exam conditions

Sit each paper for its full duration with no interruptions. Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry papers are 2 hours — long enough that pacing across the second hour is a real skill. Use a printed copy of the question paper for the most realistic practice.

Mark with the June 2021 MS

Edexcel mark schemes show the acceptable answer plus alternative wordings. Pay attention to the marking dots — they indicate the discrete points an examiner is looking for. Missing one usually costs one mark.

Read the examiner report (once released)

The ER is the most actionable document in any past paper bundle. It tells you exactly which questions tripped most candidates up in this specific session — and what examiners wanted to see instead. Use it before you re-attempt the paper.

Cross-reference with the spec

When you lose marks on a topic, look it up in the official Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry specification. The spec is the source of truth for what's examinable — anything outside it is fair to skip.

Edexcel IGCSE 4CH1 June 2021 — Frequently asked questions

What's in the Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry June 2021 paper bundle?
This page hosts 2 files for the Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry (4CH1) June 2021 session: question papers, mark schemes for Paper 2C. All files come from Pearson Edexcel and are free to download — no account required.
What's the difference between Edexcel IGCSE and Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry?
Edexcel IGCSE and Cambridge IGCSE are two parallel qualifications recognised globally. Edexcel 4CH1 is graded 9-1; Cambridge IGCSE is graded A*-G (or 9-1 in some sessions). The content overlaps significantly but the question style and emphasis differ — Edexcel tends to favour shorter structured questions; Cambridge often has longer multi-part questions. Universities and employers accept both equally.
How do I read Edexcel paper codes like 4CH1/1P or 4CH1/2H?
Edexcel paper codes follow the pattern SubjectCode/PaperNumberTier. For Chemistry 4CH1, the codes are 1C and 2C — the letter denotes the subject (C for Chemistry), not a tier. Both papers are sat by all candidates.
When does Pearson release June 2021 Edexcel mark schemes and examiner reports?
Pearson publishes Edexcel IGCSE mark schemes on results day or shortly after — typically 8-10 weeks after the exam window closes. The examiner report follows roughly 2-3 months later, on Pearson's qualifications portal. The mark schemes for this session are available above. The examiner report has not been published yet.
How should I practise these 4CH1 papers effectively?
Use our free Exam Hub to view the question paper and mark scheme side-by-side. Time yourself for the full 2 hours, mark with the MS, then read the examiner report (if released) to see where most candidates lost marks in June 2021. For weak topics, go back to the Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry hub.
