Paper components in this session
The Edexcel GCSE Mathematics qualification is built from 6 paper components, each available at Foundation or Higher tier. The grid below shows the paper components appearing in the June 2023 bundle on this page.
About the June 2023 1MA1 session
Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA1 is assessed by three papers across two tiers. Paper 1 is non-calculator (1MA1/1F or 1MA1/1H, 1 hour 30 minutes, 80 marks); Papers 2 and 3 are calculator papers (same duration and marks). Foundation tier covers grades 5-1; Higher tier covers grades 9-4.
The June 2023 bundle on this page contains 12 files across 6 paper components covering both Foundation and Higher tiers. Mark schemes are included for every question paper. The examiner report has not yet been released for this session.
How to use these Edexcel GCSE Mathematics past papers
Practise the right tier
Don't mix Foundation and Higher papers. If your centre has entered you for Higher, every practice paper should be Higher — the question style and difficulty are genuinely different from Foundation.
Time yourself properly
GCSE Math papers are 1 hour 30 minutes each. The non-calculator Paper 1 is the trickiest for pacing — practice estimating where the harder questions sit so you can budget time.
Use the June 2023 mark scheme
Edexcel GCSE mark schemes show the acceptable wording plus alternative answers, often with marking dots indicating each discrete point. Mark strictly — if your wording isn't on the list, examiners won't usually credit it.
Read the examiner report (once released)
For this June 2023 sitting, the ER tells you exactly which questions the cohort struggled with and what examiners wanted instead. If you have one weekend to revise, the ER plus the question paper is usually the highest-leverage combination.
